Weird TreeIn this special "386 Version," You'll be able to complete your Pokédex without the need to connect with other games via wirelss adaptor or game-link cable (though you totally still can) through various wild encounters, trades, gifts, static encounters and more! But don't worry, most of the game is left as "vanilla" as possible to remain as faithful to the original release as you remember it - though some text has been modified to no longer reference "real world" locations. This edition does not change difficulty, sprite-work, music, evolution methods, trainer parties, running speed, rebalance moves, modify typing or introduce anything new which might "modernize" or "fix problems" with the original release - It's pretty much the old game... except completable!

How to Use the Patch

The ROM-hack file in the download section cannot be played by itself! It must be applied to an original, legit copy of this exact .gba rom: Pokemon - FireRed Version (USA) - I cannot tell you where or how to find that exact titled rom (it cannot be a later v1.1 revision, or any other language, etc.), but if you have a rom like this, check it using this link https://www.romhacking.net/hash, and compare the information it gives you to this info, here:

Database match: Pokemon - FireRed Version (USA)
Database: No-Intro: Game Boy Advance (v. 20210227-023848)
File/ROM SHA-1: 41CB23D8DCCC8EBD7C649CD8FBB58EEACE6E2FDC
File/ROM CRC32: DD88761C

If the information matches, then you can make the Fire Red 386 rom:

  1. Unzip the .zip file to get to the .ips file.
  2. Put the Pokémon Fire Red 386.ips file and your copy of the Pokémon Fire Red .gba in a folder.
  3. Apply the patch (.ips file) to the game (.gba file) using only ONE of these two options:
  4. Growlithe and OakThe file created by the patcher is the full Pokémon Fire Red 386 patched game, and can now be played on your favorite GBA emulator or flashed to a cart! To be sure that the patch is applied correctly, look out for Growlithe in Prof. Oak's opening speech. To check your exact patch version, you can press "L" on the title screen for the Help Menu, and select "About Game" - The patch version number will be in the bottom right of the game description.
