Red Using the PC

Really, what this site actually is, is just a retro-themed unified "home base" for the ROM-hacks that I've put together over the years. I want using the site to envoke the same sense of nostalgia that playing these ROM-hacks are meant to give. I take none of the credit for any official artworks found throughout the site, and these are only used to present historical pieces of the early internet. I make no money from the site or the hacks (nor do I have any intention to), and don't want to mislead anyone. At best, you might find altered, re-arranged or re-created versions of classic assets (such as the wallpaper downloads), but, unless specifically noted, this site should be treated as a historical art gallery.

Blue 151 and the initial release version of Yellow 151 were done with hex-editing tools, while the newer games were all done with decompilation projects. I cannot express how intimidating getting into hacking was for me, as I had absolutely no prior experience with coding, scripting or anything relating to computer languages. Therefore, I must mention that the following tools and resources I used were absolutely critical in the creation and success of these projects:

  • Swamperts Tools: Specialized tools to directly change the hex-code for the Blue 151 and Yellow 151 projects.
  • Pret Decomp Projects: Decompiled Pokémon game projects used as a base for modifying files and building Crystal 251, Emerald 386 and FireRed 386.
  • Serebii.net: Constant reference for all projects.
  • Bulbapedia: Constant reference for all projects.

Without the ground-work done by these groups, and the additional support provided through their various wikis, forums, discord groups, etc., "my" hacks would not be here. I want to thank everyone involved in those groups, and to make sure that anyone who enjoys the hacks showcased on this website knows that it was absolutely not a one-man band! You'll find even more specific credit given within each of the project's "readme" file.

I also want to thank Gas, who's been working behind the scenes to make some really really neat stuff that we hope to show-off soon. They are also responsible for developing a tool that was crucial in putting together the "Pokemon Location Guide" found in the FireRed 386 download pack. But also, I would also like to thank anyone who takes a chance and plays through any of my projects; I know how it can feel to download a fan-made project, anticipating spending a lot of time with it, but not know what kind of quality experience you'll be getting. I hope that you enjoy your experience with my projects and never feel like you are even playing a "hack."
